Whilst some people will still be recovering from their
Christmas mince pie, Ilkley thrashed Rawdon Old Boys last night 7-0 in their midweek
friendly, writes Evan Seaman.

The hosts burst out of the blocks as striker Tom Smith opened
the scoring after his strike took a slight deflection before hitting the back
of the net to make the score 1-0.

Ilkley got their first chance from a set-play when Joe
Garside stepped up to take the free-kick just outside the box but his attempt
at goal whistles just over the bar.

Just before the break had an opportunity get his second of
the game as he found himself on-on-one with the keeper, but his shot was parried
away to keep the score at 1-0 at half time.

Shortly into the second half Joe Hendrie got on the scoresheet
to double the home side’s lead to 2-0.

Ilkley’s Tom Fleming made it 3-0 as Macauley Smith whipped
in a low cross before Fleming tapped the ball home from close range.

George Gomersall then made it 4-0 in spectacular fashion when
he took the free kick from 30 yards out before hitting the top left corner.

Joe Chilaka gets the final two goals for the hosts after
getting on the end of striker Tom Smith’s cross for the first one then curling
the ball into the bottom left corner to bag a brace.

This meant Ilkley ran out 7-0 winners in the friendly
against Rawdon Old Boys to put them in good stead for the league fixture against
Hall Green on Saturday.
