Ilkley manager Simon Armstrong reflects on yesterday’s 0-1 cup win against Headingley.

Well done on the result today, what did you think of the overall performance?

”I thought the performance was committed, strong, we were very competitive and we worked incredibly hard. It wasn’t our most fluid performance but to come away from home to a team that’s fifth in the table, get a clean sheet and win the game, I was really pleased with the performance overall”

How important do you think it was to score before halftime?
”I thought we were well in the game at that point, obviously it’s a mistake on their part and Tom Smith pounced on it. It was important to go ahead in the game because it was tight, it could’ve gone either way in the first half. I think in the second half we were on top and in control of most of the game“

Do you think you could’ve pushed on for another goal in the second half?

“In the second half we were very good at times without being at our best in regards to moving the ball and creating opportunities. But we hit the bar, the keeper had to make two great saves so we were probably unlucky not to get a second and kill the game off. Credit to Headingley, they worked hard, they are a much better team this year than they had been in the last couple of seasons”

Is it pleasing to see the team keep another clean sheet today?
“Its really pleasing, I thought the keeper, the back four and the two CDMs were all excellent. We kept it simple, we won the ball and we didn’t complicate it. We did our jobs effectively which made it really difficult for Headingley to create an opportunity to score from”

Do you think the team will be looking to improve on anything after today?

”I think out of possession we should keep going as we are and in possession I don’t think we were at our best“
