The final match of the league season had finally arrived and what a fixture we had in store. A top of the table clash between first and second, with Roma U11s knowing that only a win would see them earn their first league title.

After an opening day 3-0 defeat to Litherland, it is testament to coaches Pato and David to just how far this group have come.

Emotional roller coasters, ups and downs, personal growth and maturity have all been evident throughout this campaign and, with a Cup final still to play for, the scene was set.

Whatever the result, this group of lads (and parents/family/coaches) could be proud of themselves.

The first chance of the game went to Gibbo who tested the keeper well from the right.

Mags picked up an early free kick which was saved well by Noah.

Scotty played Gibbo down the right, he whipped in a vicious ball but the Mags keeper prevented well.

A shot from distance for Mags went over comfortably.

An unbelievable finish for Gibbo after a beautiful ball played through from Caff but for the ref to call a dubious offside!!

No more than 2 minutes later and Roma fell behind to an apparent offside goal as the Mags attacker plays the ball forward to his team mate with no defender in sight. He puts the ball in the back of the net and, after a hesitation, the ref awarded the goal.

A cagey end to end remainder of the half played out with chances at both ends. Roma didn't seem to be finding their game and heads were starting to drop.

Half time

The first chance of the half was a strike from distance by Ryan but again the Mags keeper saved well.

A free kick from half way by Foley was flicked on nicely by Ryan but went just wide.

A free kick to Mags and the ball hits the back of the net past an outstretched Stevie. 2-0

Best chance of the match for Roma between Caff and Gibbo as the keeper was rounded but forced Gibbo wide and the wet surface seen him unable to convert.

Mags goal. 3-0

Everything Roma produced seemed to go straight down the keepers throat this evening and it could have been a different outcome on another night.

Constant pressure and quick feet from both Dylan and Cal throughout the game just never seemed to pay off in the way it usually would either.

Full time

A tough one to swallow today given the dubious early offside decision that went against Roma, but these lads should be immensely proud of themselves tonight and this season, finishing league runners up.

Lessons to be learnt from this campaign and a big opportunity for the team to regroup and come back again next season.

Still, a Cup final beckons and the hunger has just increased.

Up. The. ROMA!!!!
