Vs JJ Bilbao
Roma may have beaten tonight's oppenents 5-0 when they last met in the cup but they threw away a 2 goal lead to end in a draw at the last league meeting.
Bilbao had the first chance dancing through the defence but Noah did well to save early. He played a quick pass out to Gibbo who found Dylan 10 yards outside the box. Dylan shot from range and into the back of the net... 1-0!
So much for the usual slow start, these boys came out flying tonight!
Caff started off great down the left, passing 2 before playing a good ball into the box but went out for a goal kick.
Noah was quick off his line to prevent a Bilbao attack over the top.
The next attack led to a Bilbao free kick from 25yds. Their Centre Half struck it well and put it into the top corner 1-1.
Another great display down the left between Cal and Caff resulting in a great crossed ball which just escaped Gibbo in the box.
Cal went clean through on goal and had his ankles swiped, free kick on the edge of the box. He stepped up to take and struck the wall resulting in a corner.
Ryan took the corner and played it perfectly to Dylan who converted from close range. 2-1.
Some good battling in the middle of the park allowed Dylan to come away with the ball. He unselfishly played in Gibbo but he was forced just wide.
A sweet strike from distance by Scotty was saved well by the Bilbao keeper.
Alfie dealt with the next period of pressure at the back before playing in Caff who put Scotty through perfectly, he made no mistake from outside the box. 3-1.
Scotty returned the favour to Caff just a minute later with a delightful ball. Caff still had a lot to do but found the back of the net over the keeper. 4-1.
Alfie fired an effort from near half way when the Roma corner was cleared but it drifted wide of the goal.
Roma continued to pile the pressure for the next 10 minutes but to no avail. Some great work and excellent communication between the boys.
Heads seemed to be focusing solely on desperation to get on the score sheet for the last few minutes and Bilbao had a number of chances with 3 unmarked in the Roma box. Luckily no goal threats were made but questions were asked.
Half time.
A fast start to the 2nd half saw Gibbo fly down the right and deliver a great ball just missed by Caff. Cal then went on to strike the post with the follow up.
Alfie played a line splitting pass from the edge of his own box finding Gibbo but he put the ball just wide of the far post.
A good effort from range by Bilbao saved easily by Stevie and that was their first chance for sometime.
A free kick was won by Gibbo after being caught when through on goal. He stepped up and put the ball in the top corner.!! 5-1.
Roma's continuous pressure forced the Bilbao keeper to rush and clear from near the corner flag only to find Scotty who fired the ball back and into an open goal from 25 yards. 6-1!!.
Stevie played in Dylan who travelled strongly before very unselfishly putting Foley in at the edge of the box. He took a good touch to settle himself before striking it clean enough, getting a bit of luck from the keeper and making it 7-1!!!
Bilbao made a rare 2nd half chance but Cal came flying in from nowhere with a great sliding tackle to prevent an almost certain goal.
Cal's next passage of play found him delivering a good cross which was taken excellently by Shay with the Bilbao keeper denying him his goal.
Cal was everywhere in the last few minutes and proceeded to be taken down outside the box. He took the resulting free kick and found the far top corner. 8-1.!!!!!
Full time.
Scotty MOTM - in absolute fine voice tonight from start to finish. Attitude was an example to all and his play throughout was the best he's been all season.
A special mention to Connor and Dylan who I'm certain had their twin brothers on the pitch alongside them today given they were everywhere!
